Evaluation of my reality TV pitch... My reality TV achieves the theories in connection to we media. Excuses achieves Dan Gillmor's citizen journalism as it involves the use of technology for the audience to vote. Through the use of technology the audience can decide and write someone's fate and this relates to we media model. The media giants and institutions don't just control what we see but part of the enjoyment and entertainment discussed in Bulmler and Katz theory uses and gratifications come from being able to decide what happens the contestants. David Gauntlett's making is connecting (2011) theory is relevant to my gameshow because people come together to vote as a body and these votes decide what happens. If only one person watched and voted the programme would be a failure however, if lots of people come together then the programme has value and brings entertainment and social integration. Hashtag excuses doesn't discriminate and anyone and everyone can apply to be a contestant as well as everyone being able to vote for the punishments and the person being ejected each round which means it appeals and achieves MacDougall's theory of anyone's participation. The show achieves Hackley's theory of the possibility of transformation as a deeper reason for watching a programme and this works in tandem with Turner's stages of transformation. Before the show we hear about contestants normal lives and why they want to win this is liminal separation; then we see them play each round and this is the liminal period. Finally, we see the winner who wins 10 grand and tells us how he will use it in real life; this is the reassimilation period.
